Barbie Wharton was a dancer her whole life, then went to school for business, as she always knew she would be an entrepreneur. She left a career in upper management after having her two boys, now teenagers, and started a team apparel company with her sister. She also worked alongside her and her mom for 20 years producing 14 dance competitions per year in Western Canada. Their theme at all events was “You Belong Here”. Everyone is special, everyone belongs.
In 2020 her family closed due to Covid-19 and my heart was broken. So much of her spark comes from the community and the young dancers. So, she realized she was not ready to let the dance world go. She is starting her own company – B1 Dance Productions running a few small dance competitions starting in 2021. As well, a video series called “Dancer Development Series” talking to dancers about ways to use skills learned in dance throughout all areas throughout their life. She will be brave, resilient, and start again. (Again).
She writes, talks, and speaks onstage about things that have happened to her and how she has grown from them. Depression, anxiety, Bell’s Palsy in 2015, and a major concussion in 2017. Her decision to take meds to help her through various stages of her life and losing her “illusion” of what she thought her life “should ” look like. She is loud about learning self-care, boundaries, and limits – from her sassy point of view.
